This article analyzes Mark Fisher’s concept of capitalist realism within the context of emancipatory
critical social theories, focusing on the dominance of the capitalist system over post-Marxist alternative
approaches. According to Fisher, late capitalism is not merely an economic system but also imposes itself
as an inevitable social reality. This condition restricts the imagination of individuals and societies, weakening belief in Marxist utopias and alternative ideologies to capitalism. In this context, the study questions the discursive impact of specific post-Marxist social theories that emerged in the post-Marx era
in the face of the late capitalist order. In this analysis, Harry G. Frankfurt’s concept of bullshit will be
used as a theoretical tool. Frankfurt’s conceptualization is functional in revealing the indifference to truth
and the detachment from social reality in some ideological discourses. In the article, Frankfurt’s concept
of bullshit will be employed as a foundational argument supporting Fisher’s view of capitalist realism,
through which the extent to which post-Marxist approaches are grounded in reality, and their actual
effectiveness will be critically examined.
