Özet
Abstract: Sports performance is not only related to physical capacity but also directly linked to higher-order cognitive processes such as attention, working memory, executive functions, and decision-making. This review examines the central role of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in sports performance within a neurocognitive framework. Based on a systematic literature review, this work comprehensively investigates the anatomy and functional organization of the PFC, the relationship between executive functions and sport, transient hypofrontality theory, neurocognitive mechanisms of the flow state, the connection between working memory and sports performance, and neurocognitive network structures. The effects of combined physical and cognitive training on PFC activation and sport-specific neurocognitive profiles are also discussed. Current findings reveal that the PFC is both a constraining and enabling structure in sport, forming part of a dynamic neural system shaped by training. The proposed model aims to provide an integrative framework at the intersection of sport psychology, neuroscience, and training science.
