Özet

"Trigger warnings" or "content warnings" act as cautionary signals for content that might disturb or trigger trauma. Initially rooted in the feminist blogosphere, their adoption has broadened to media outlets such as newspapers and books, and significantly, to university courses. Debates about whether to use these warnings intersect with disciplines like psychology, sociology, and education, reflecting concerns about academic freedom, student expectations, and shifts in the sociopolitical landscape of 21st-century higher education. Within health sciences education, topics often broach areas like illnesses, disabilities, death, and discrimination, raising the question of whether to incorporate these warnings in course materials. In recent years, substantial research, including comprehensive meta-analyses, has been conducted on the topic of trigger/content warnings. This surge in scholarship provides a foundation for more informed decisions regarding their application in health sciences education. This presentation aims to offer a review of the current literature, exploring both the benefits and challenges of these warnings in educational settings.
