Küresel iklim değişikliği günümüzde sosyal, çevresel ve ekonomik dengeleri tehdit eden çok boyutlu sorun olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Aşırı nüfus artışı, kaynak israfı, aşırı tüketim ve bunların beraberinde getirdiği biyoçeşitlilik kaybı, yüksek karbon salınımı gibi sorunlar mevcut doğrusal ekonomi modellerinin sürdürülemez olduğunu açıkça ortaya koymaktadır. Bu yüzden iklim değişikliği ile mücadelede sürdürülebilir bir çözüm alternatifi olarak yeni yaklaşımlara olan ihtiyaç ön plana çıkmıştır. Bu noktada iklim kriziyle mücadelede sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerine ulaşmak için çözüm olarak ortaya çıkan döngüsel ekonomi yaklaşımı modeli dikkat çekmektedir. Döngüsel ekonomi modeli, ekonomik faaliyetlerin doğaya zarar vermeden yapılması, atık oluşumunun en aza indirilmesi, geri dönüşüm, yeniden kullanım, üretim-tüketim kalıplarının yeniden tasarlanması gibi ilkeleri hedefleyen sürdürülebilir bir model olarak kendini göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda, döngüsel ekonomi modeli, iklim değişikliği ile mücadelede sistemsel ve bütüncül bir strateji sunmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı ise, döngüsel ekonomi modeli yaklaşımının iklim değişikliğinin etkilerini azaltmaya yönelik rolünü sürdürülebilirlik ilkeleri doğrultusunda incelemektir. Ayrıca bu çalışma kapsamında döngüsel ekonomi uygulamalarının sürdürülebilir kalkınma ve düşük karbon hedeflerine yönelik politika önerileri ve yapısal dönüşüm gereklilikleri üzerinde durulmaktadır.
Global climate change is currently considered a multidimensional problem that threatens social, environmental, and economic balances. Problems such as excessive population growth, resource waste, excessive consumption, and the resulting loss of bioequality and high carbon emissions clearly demonstrate the unsustainability of existing linear economic models. Therefore, the need for new approaches as sustainable alternatives to combating climate change has come to the fore. At this point, the circular economy model, which has emerged as a solution to achieve sustainable development goals in combating the climate crisis, is attracting attention. The circular economy model presents itself as a sustainable model that aims to implement principles such as conducting economic activities without harming nature, minimizing waste generation, recycling, reuse, and redesigning production-consumption patterns. In this context, the circular economy model offers a systemic and holistic strategy in combating climate change. The aim of this study is to examine the role of the circular economy model in mitigating the impacts of climate change in line with sustainability principles. Furthermore, this study focuses on policy recommendations and structural transformation requirements for circular economy practices aimed at sustainable development and low-carbon goals.
