Özet

Introduction and Purpose: This study, it was aimed to investigate that effect of 12 weeks regular folk dance named as zeybek exercise to balance, strength and flexibility skills of older people.

Materials and Methods: The working group was fomed with the voluntary participation of 18 older people who is living in Edirne governership residential service, 9 old people were in the experimental group, and 9 old people in control group. Experimental and control group participants’ pre-test and post-test physical fitness parameters were measured as following; height, weight, balance,strength and flexibility. Data analysis was evaluated using SPSS 26 packet programme. In order to compare the Experimental and control groups, t-test analysis was used in independent groups. Afterwards statistical analyses has been made (SPSS versiyon 26, T test, paired T test).

Findings: Experimental group hand grip strenght right hand and hand grip strenght left hand tests, sit-up test in chair, time walk-up test, stand-on-one test, modified Schober tests last test score averages were found to be higher than pre-test point averages, statistically significant differences were found between pre-test and final test scores (p<0.05). According to the results of the comparison of the experimental and control groups, there has been a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the chair the situp test, the time-up-walk test, the stand-on-one test (eyes open) and the stand-on-one test (eyes closed) (p<0.05).

Results: As a result, participants' balance, strength and flexibility values were found higher and statistically meaningful in the experimental group then the control group.Findings of this research is supporting importance of exercise program for daily life quality in elderly people over 65.
