Seismic base isolators are control devices designed to dampen vibrations and re-duce structural response. The study focuses on the optimal design of a seismic base isolator for structure under ground vibrations. The control performance of the isolator was investigated when optimized considering only one of the acceler-ation and displacement factors. The harmony search algorithm was used for the optimization process, and the objective function was determined based on the ac-celeration and displacement effect values. Critical earthquake analyses were per-formed for the obtained optimal isolator characteristics, and the isolator perfor-mance was compared for objective functions considering only acceleration and only displacement. According to the results obtained, it was seen that when only acceleration was effective in the objective function, displacement control was low compared to the objective function using only displacement, and in the optimiza-tion application based on displacement, a good acceleration reduction was achieved in addition to displacement control.
