Özet
Fashion is a situation that develops with individuals' constant desire to possess the new. The clothes are as an indicator in terms of status, wealth, psychology, political, and religious The colour, material and design of clothes, etc., are not only design elements, but also they are a way to express people’s thoughts and emotions. In fashion design, which is rooted in creativity, it is possible for every material to be reinterpreted and reimagined as a new product. Today, designers provide using different forms of fabrics and creating new trends and styles. Examples of surface design using materials other than textiles are seen in contemporary fashion design. Safetypins are one of the materials used in clothing design. Safetypins, which attract the attention of designers in terms of form, meaning and aesthetics, are used as a design element. As part of contemporary fashion trends, various garment accessories have begun to be used for purposes other than their intended functions. Buttons, zippers, safetypins used for fastening garments, are now also used as texture, design details and even as the primary material forming the entire garment. These materials, which have gained new meanings and functions beyond their primary purpose, are remarkable in terms of both functionality and aesthetics. People are using them to made for their selves style to express their personal image. This use causes new trends and new inspiration for designers. In this study, the use of safetypins as a garment material, which are used for clothes closure, for decoration, accessory as well as social reaction and creative design. The use of safetypins as a functional and aesthetic material is showcased in examples selected from the works of contemporary fashion designers who incorporate safetypins into punk fashion, gothic fashion, DIY projects and designs.
