İnternet is a communication network that allows transmitting/receiving data and information
with computers and other smart devices used all over the world. It is easy to see what is being
done on social media, mobile devices and online shopping platforms via the internet. The
internet usage rate in our country (85%) is above the world average (66%). This study includes
internet usage in the world and in Türkiye, time spent on the internet, income earned, investment
made, reasons for users to go online, the most used social media platforms in the world and in
Türkiye, the ranking of profiles followed from social media accounts, social media in Türkiye
in the world. the rate of following influencers in the media, the situation of Türkiye when
internet users who make online purchases are examined, the ranking of the points that users pay
attention to when they say it will help them complete their purchasing process in online
shopping, the most used emojis, etc. was planned to reveal. The data was collected from Digital
2023 Global Overview and Türkiye Report, Digital 2023 World Report, Information
Technologies and Communication Authority Annual Market Data Bulletin, TUIK Data,
MOBİSAD Mobile Communication Tools and Information Technologies Business People
Association data. It was evaluated using the analysis method used in social sciences. At the end
of the evaluation, the average annual increase in internet revenues was 24%. The number of
mobile phone users worldwide reached 5.44 billion and 168 million new users. The internet
adoption rate in the 8 countries at the top of the world ranking is 99 percent. Türkiye's internet
connection ranks 37th in the world with 83.4 percent. Türkiye ranks 15th in the world in terms
of time spent on the internet, with 7 hours and 24 minutes per day. The reasons for using the
Internet are to find information (73.2%), to be informed about news and events (67.6%) and to
research how to do it (63.9%). If we rank media platforms according to their monthly active
users, Facebook ranks first worldwide. However, Instagram usage time in Türkiye is almost
twice the world average. According to research conducted in Türkiye, Instagram ranks first in
monthly social media usage per user with 21 hours and 24 minutes. Tik Tok took second place
with 20 hours and 54 minutes. This ranking continues with YouTube, WhatsApp and Facebook.
The order of profiles followed on social media accounts in Türkiye is friends, family and people
we know (42.4%), brands we buy (35.2%) and brands we want to buy (33.4%). When we look
at the rate of following influencers on social media in the world, Türkiye ranks 49th with 11.7
percent compared to other countries. When internet users who make online purchases every

week around the world are examined, Türkiye ranks 3rd with 64.6 percent. Online shopping is
free delivery (57.3%), easy return policy (49.4%) and coupons and discounts (43.5%). When
examining users who discovered new brands, products and services, 36.8 percent say they
discovered these brands through social media ads. This ranking is followed by search engines
with 36.6 percent, TV ads with 35.6 percent, application ads with 30.8 percent, and websites of
brands or products with 29.2 percent. As can be seen from here, the internet has influenced our
lives and shapes our lives. When good and correct choices are made, it contributes to the
development of people.
