Abstract

Since automotive industry is locomotive of the economy and triggers many other sectors, it influences the global economy of the country. The trend of the automotive sector is determined by customer demand and expectations, and inputs and sources. The decrease of the amount of the petroleum sources of the world and the negative effects to the environment is steered the manufacturers into alternative energy sources and recyclable inputs. On this context, "2023 Vision of Turkey and Socioeconomic Targets" which is defined in the document of Turkish National Science and Technology Politics, and 2003-2023 Strategies implies producing and using the energy by environmentally friendly technologies, making production by clean manufacturing which are in line with the trend of the automotive industry of the world. However, although the success of the automotive sector of Turkey is increasing, there is still no Turkish automobile brand. Recently Turkish national politics pay more attention to the automobile industry as in the developed countries. Automotive sector of Turkey is in 17th order in the world and in 5th order in Europe. In this study, the trends of the automotive industry in the world and Turkey are investigated and SWOT analysis is implemented in order to decide right strategic goals for Turkish branded automobile production.
