Özet

Abstract:

Rapidly developed high technology and diversified communication tools contribute to the democratization process of countries on the one hand, and are also used very effectively as a tool that restricts the freedom of thought, expression and communication and supports the dictatorship. Freedom, which is actually an abstract concept, is not only the most fundamental and important subject of philosophy, politics, law and ideology, but also of communication sciences. Freedom of thought, expression and communication is the foundation of all other freedoms. Without freedom of thought, expression and communication, other freedoms will be meaningless. Undoubtedly, mass media plays the biggest role in ensuring these freedoms. In the study, the general situation of press freedom in the world and in Turkey was tried to be revealed through the press freedom reports published by Freedom House and Reporters sans frontières from 1985 to 2023.
