Özet

The ability of the new media to gather different known environments together, the fact that today's communication medium can consider time-independent consumption opportunities open up to discussion many concepts accepted in the literature. Within these discussions, the fact that television productions are transferred to digital platforms and that they are accessible in many countries and cities at the same time through these platforms reveals the fact that TV series and films can/can serve a purpose while they are still in production. This purpose can be evaluated in the context of public diplomacy as well as a part of the definition strategies of countries/cities.

It can be said that the use of historical places in Turkish TV series plays an important role in the branding of the city, based on the claim that many Turkish TV series, especially broadcast on the Netflix digital platform, have such purposes.

The fact that Turkish TV series, which were exported abroad by different production companies in previous years, mainly included "historical" subjects, created a public diplomacy debate. However, Turkish series produced in recent years and containing different subjects are the product of the use of historical places, cultural venues and Netflix co-production. According to these discussions, Turkish TV series on digital films/series platforms directly affect the images of country and city brands. In this qualitative study, the role of historical places in the city branding in Turkish TV series broadcast on Netflix is critically evaluated.
