Corruption has a long-term detrimental effect on economic development and sustainable increase
in social welfare by disrupting the efficient allocation of economic resources and damaging the
level of institutionalisation of countries. For this reason, many government control and enforcing
mechanisms are established in countries to prevent corruption. This study empirically analyses
the effects of government policy effectiveness on the control of corruption in South Africa.
According to the results of the econometric analysis, it is found that the effectiveness of
government policies in South Africa has the same direction and statistically significant effect on
the control of corruption. In this context, it has been determined in the study that it is important
for the government to produce effective policies in order for countries to be successful in
controlling corruption.
