Considering that no artistic creation activity can be handled in isolation from the intellectual climate and historical conditions of the current era, the influence of Wagner's music on Mahler and the cultural and aesthetic background of this interaction in the history of music philosophy are explained, while the musical interaction in question is explained by the cultural crisis, historical collapse, and cultural crisis that marked that period in German philosophy. It has been evaluated around basic philosophical debates such as emulation of aesthetic pathos and rootlessness. For this purpose, not only the musical productivity of Wagner and Mahler at that time and the historical basis of their interaction, but also the existential pains that German philosophy experienced at that time, the alienation caused by the crisis of inauthenticity in society, the consolation of healing the wounds caused by Nazism with an aesthetic pathos, and the Germans' desire for authentic art at that time. Topics such as trying to overcome the hunger felt by imitating Ancient Greek art were also discussed; The impact of all these intellectual and cultural reckonings on artistic production has been interpreted in the light of the aesthetic understandings of the great German thinkers. Therefore, the philosophical background of the German philosophy of art, which spread to the period in which Wagner and Mahler lived, is discussed in relation to the cultural world and artistic perception of that period.
