Özet

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effects of employee empowerment on employee performance by examining how its different dimensions relate to performance in private hospitals. Within this framework, empowerment is addressed through the dimensions of Meaningfulness, Competence, Autonomy, and Effectiveness, allowing their respective contributions to employee performance to be considered separately. The literature review was developed using a deductive approach, while the methodology was based on the relational screening model. The sample consisted of 540 employees working in private hospitals in Istanbul. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire comprising three sections: participants’ demographic characteristics, the Employee Empowerment Scale, and the Employee Performance Scale. The findings revealed that the Meaningfulness dimension had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, whereas the Competence dimension had a negative effect. In addition, the Autonomy dimension positively affected employee performance, while the Effectiveness dimension negatively affected it. These findings indicate that employee empowerment should be evaluated as a multidimensional construct whose components may have different relationships with performance. Accordingly, the results suggest that empowerment practices should be assessed with attention to the distinct contribution of each dimension, rather than assuming that all dimensions produce similar outcomes. For hospital managers seeking to improve workforce performance, the findings highlight the importance of considering meaningfulness and autonomy alongside the negative effects identified for competence and effectiveness within the study sample. Overall, the study provides a basis for a more differentiated understanding of empowerment practices and their implications for employee performance in private hospitals.
