PET-FRIENDLY WORKPLACES AS AN EMERGING ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSE TO CHANGING SOCIETAL EXPECTATIONS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Özet
The concept of the workplace is undergoing a profound transformation driven by digitalization, changing workforce expectations, and evolving social values. Among the emerging organizational responses to these changes, pet-friendly workplace practices have come to the forefront. This study aims to systematically review the pet-friendly workplace literature, identify dominant research themes, and examine their implications from a Future of Work perspective. A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance with the SPAR-4-SLR protocol and the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were performed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases using predefined keywords related to pet-friendly workplaces, and 27 studies were included in the final analysis. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns. The findings reveal that the literature develops around three main themes: (1) benefits, including employee wellbeing, work attitudes, social relationships, work-life balance, and organizational outcomes; (2) challenges and risks, encompassing health, legal, operational, cultural, and animal welfare issues; and (3) organizational practices, such as workplace policies, flexible work arrangements, and physical workplace design. Despite the growing body of research on the outcomes of pet-friendly practices, the literature largely overlooks the strategic and societal drivers underlying their adoption.
