Özet
It's not always possible for buildings to maintain their original designed functions throughout their physical lifespan. By preserving and repurposing the building stock, a building can preserve its identity while also acquiring a new role within the city. This repurposing process contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage and significantly supports the concept of sustainability. While repurposing buildings, it's crucial to make them accessible to all. Furthermore, accessibility ensures the functional continuity of buildings, ensuring the most efficient use of existing building stock. This, in turn, serves the criteria of sustainable architecture. In addition to functional continuity, minimizing buildings' carbon footprint and the environmental burden they impose also forms the basis of sustainability. In this context, the conversion and repurposing of the Rami Library in Istanbul from a barracks to a library was examined in terms of sustainability and accessibility. In this context, sustainability and accessibility were addressed by considering material use, waste management, energy efficiency, accessibility for all disability types, and universal design principles, and criteria were determined for the evaluation of the building. These criteria were then assessed on a Likert scale, revealing the criteria considered during this process. By jointly considering sustainability and accessibility criteria in repurposed buildings, this study aims to serve as a model for future studies and highlight their value in repurposing
